WSU Extension is hiring a Program Manager to provide management and shared leadership for the 4-H Youth Development Program of Yakima County.
The program currently serves approximately 300 youth members enrolled in community clubs and programs led by 70+ certified volunteers.
Through volunteer-led community clubs, afterschool programs, and education outreach events, Yakima 4-H youth explore everything from bread baking to bunnies, governmental relations to robotics, leadership to livestock, and more! 4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential by working and learning in partnership with caring adults.
The mission of 4-H is to provide meaningful opportunities for all youth and adults to work together to create sustainable community change.
This is accomplished within four primary content areas: civic engagement and leadership, healthy living, agriculture, and STEM.

We know how to up the fun factor during events, meetings, and everyday office interactions, and so should you :) *General Responsibilities *_- full details available within the link at the top of the post_ * *Volunteer Coordination & Management:* Strengthen volunteer recruitment, retention, education, and participation, with special emphasis placed on under-represented populations and in-demand project areas.
* *Youth Development Programming: *Strengthen youth recruitment, retention, opportunity, and participation, with special emphasis placed on under-served populations.
Build youth programming efforts within the 4-H club model, in-school enrichment, afterschool, and short-term programs.
* *General Program Administration & Reporting:* Assist volunteers and clubs with enrollment and reporting requirements.
Oversee contracts and risk management plans for club programs, workshops, camps, and other 4-H activities.
* *Collaboration & Outreach:* Maintain positive working relationships and effective communication with program partners, local youth development organizations, other relevant community organizations and agencies, and 4-H/university colleagues at the regional, state, and national levels to enhance opportunities and resources for Yakima County 4-H.
*General Requirements *_- full details available within the link at the top of the post_ * A bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of related program experience.
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
* Knowledge of positive youth development as a discipline and/or working experience with youth development programs.
* Experience in team leadership roles, including training, supervising, and supporting team members.
* Strong computing, writing, and verbal/non-verbal communication skills.
* Intercultural competence and commitment to providing safe and welcoming environments for all youth and adults regardless of and with respect for diversity in race; sex; gender; sexual orientation; gender identity; gender expression; religion; age; color; creed; national or ethnic origin; citizenship; physical, mental, or sensory ability; parenthood status; genetic information; and/or status as an honorably discharged veteran or member of the military.

* Knowledge of, and/or experience with, 4-H youth development programs.
* Experience developing curriculum and facilitating adult or youth educational activities.
* Experience and ability to work as a team member with staff and volunteers.
* Language and cultural competency in Spanish.
* Proficient in creative communication and design tools, like Canva or InDesign.
* Strong demonstrated written skills requiring limited editing and supervision in preparing reports, evaluations, and press releases; synthesis of a broad range of materials; and effective written conveyance of program information to the public and program participants.
* Strong demonstrated verbal communication and listening skills: public speaking, effective conveyance of program information to the public, program participants, and decision-makers.
* Experience in mediation and conflict resolution.
* Experience working/collaborating with multiple public agencies, NGOs, and individuals in partnerships.
* Experience in leadership and the ability to work and think independently.
* Knowledge of, and/or experience with, program assessment and evaluation.
* Familiarity with social media, particularly its use in program outreach.

Our expected hiring range is $57,000 - $63,000.

Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
_*NOTE:*_ Funding for this position is supported through an agreement between WSU and Yakima County.
This funding agreement is renewed each year.
