WAHLUKE SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB SUMMARY AND DESCRIPTION OF TASKS Available to begin January 2024 Position: Para-Pro/Instructional Aide- ECEAP Preschool Classification: PSE Union Representation Available, Classified Position; FLSA Non-Exempt Reports to: Classroom Instructor, Program Director Representative PSE Union Representation Available Group: Salary Range Current PSE Contract Salary Schedule for Preschool Para Benefits: Position qualifies for employer contribution to medical benefits; Retirement contributions and plans.
Earned sick leave, 10 days per year or prorated from date of hire; personal days, 3 days per year or prorated from date of hire; up to 10 paid holidays per year.
Basic Function: 7.
25 hours/day; school year calendar work days.
Assist preschool instructor to perform instructional and support tasks related to the preschool students’ educational development within the total school environment.
Provide student academic instructional support in a variety of ways including but not limited to in person class/lessons, may use computer virtual applications and software to support distance learning.
Bilingual Spanish helpful.
Typical Work: Perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting preschool-aged student progress in classroom and other school activities.
Provide age appropriate, engaging, interative learning which may require interactive play and mobility.
Proctor tests, quizzes, drills and other exercises designed by instructional staff.
Score objective tests/assessments and record grades.
Use computer and software skills to enter and access a variety student records; provide virtual and distance learning.
Communicate in a respectful, friendly and helpful manner with parents as requested or assigned, keeping in mind that communications about a student's educational performance and progress lies with the preschool instructor/lead teacher.
Aid students with special learning needs by administering remedial work.
Assist staff in the development of teaching aids and materials.
Supervise students in halls, study halls, libraries, playgrounds, learning centers, and transportation areas.
Assist in organizing and monitoring recreational activities.
Assist with meal times, including serving meals.
Accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings.
Perform basic clerical tasks for teachers (catalog, sort, file, assemble, reproduce and distribute classroom materials, collect money, check out equipment) May provide for personal care needs of students such as diapering, feeding, changing.
Provide social and emotion care of all students.
May assist with coordination of services with local Inspire Development Center.
May provide attention to the needs of disabled or handicapped students.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High School Diploma.
Some positions require bilingual Spanish fluency.
Two years of college level coursework or pass a basic skills test.
Additional ECEAP requirements include the equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in early childhood education, or Child Development Association (CDA) credential, or ability to obtain necessary college course work.
Required to complete State Fundamental Course of Study for paraeducators and committed to accomplish the required General Para Education certificate.
Successfully complete a written Spanish/English translation test if required.
Experience with children or students in an educational setting and / or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences for preschool aged students preferred.
Proficient and confident in use of computers and electronic devices and web-based applications including Google suite.
Possess basic clerical skills and a familiarity with first aid procedures.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally with assistance and 20 lbs unaided.
Able and expected to attend work as scheduled.
Able to model appropriate professional behavior.
Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability/willingness to perform personal care functions for students such as, but not limited to; diapering, feeding, changing.
Ability to maneuver to perform the functions associated with preschool activities including, kneeling, bending, squatting, lifting.
Expected to wear appropriate and safe attire and grooming for the preschool learning environment.
Ability to work collaboratively, respectively and civilly with coworkers, students, families and community.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and district records required.
Required to participate and successfully pass a Washington State Patrol/FBI fingerprint background check.
Required to recieve MERIT program clearance upon hire and every three (3) years after that.
Required to obtain Food Handlers permit and adhere to safe food handler/serving requirements.
