WAHLUKE SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB SUMMARY AND DESCRIPTION OF TASKS Available Immediately Position: Special Education Lifeskills Class Para Pro/Instructional Assistant, Initial placement at Saddle Mt.
Elementary; Reports to: Classroom Teacher, Special Education Director, Building Principal Classification: Classified hourly employee; Non-Supervisory, FLSA non-exempt position Employee Union Representation available by Public School Employees Representative District (PSE) Collective Bargaining Agreement Group: Salary Range Lifeskills Para-Pro Salary Placement- Current PSE Contract Salary Schedule Benefits: Position qualifies for employer contribution to medical, dental, vision benefits; Retirement contributions and plans.
Earned sick leave, 10 days per year or prorated from date of hire; personal days, 3 days per year or prorated from date of hire; up to 10 paid holidays per year.
Summary: Assignment is 7 to 7.
5 hours per day, school year calendar,180 day plus paid holidays.
Number of work days will be pro-rated from date of hire until the end of the school year.
Initial assignment is at Saddle Mt.
Elementary.
Special Education para pro assignment locations may change depending upon program need.
Assist certified staff to coordinate and perform instructional and support tasks related to the students’ educational, emotional and physical development within the total school environment.
Assists students, individually or in groups,with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
Assist individuals to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
Experience and/or educational training in early childhood development, familiar with the needs of developmental disabled students preferred.
May assist students with clothing, movement, and toilet usage.
Possess computer and application skills and ability to become proficient in necessary software and remote learning applications.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with staff and students.
Ability to lift and maneuver children with assistance and physical dexterity and ability to lift and maneuver adaptive equipment.
May include other duties.
Bilingual Spanish helpful.
Typical Work: Perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress in classrooms and other school activities.
Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher/special education director to coordinate instructional efforts.
Provide Spanish instruction and translation when necessary/required.
Proctor tests, quizzes, drills and other exercises designed by certified staff.
Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
May provide attention to the needs of disabled or handicapped students.
Assist individuals to understand and overcome social and emotional problems.
Score objective tests and record grades and assessment results.
May assist students with clothing, movement, and toilet usage.
Lift and maneuver children and /or equipment.
Aid students with special learning needs by administering remedial work.
Assist teaching staff in the development of teaching aids and materials.
Supervise students in halls, study halls, libraries, playgrounds, learning centers and transportation areas.
Assist in organizing and monitoring recreational activities.
Accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings.
Attend and participate in trainings during and outside of regular shift and which may require travel.
Perform basic clerical tasks for teachers (attendance, catalog, sort, file, assemble, reproduce and distribute classroom materials, collect money, check out equipment) Other duties as required.
Qualifications: High School Diploma.
Two years (72 quarter credits) of college level coursework, AA Degree or or pass a basic skills test.
Self motivated - self directed.
Ability to complete the Fundamental Course of Study as required by the State of Washington.
Ability and willingness to complete the State required General Para Pro Qualifications program.
Possess computer and application skills and ability to become proficient in necessary software and remote learning applications.
Ability to follow guidelines and coordinate student and teacher schedules for services.
Experience with children or students in an educational setting and / or evidence of an interest in supporting learning experiences preferred.
Ability to lift 20 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally with assistance.
Requires work outdoors in all seasons with all types of weather.
Possesses basic clerical skills and a familiarity with first aid procedures.
Able and expected to attend work as scheduled.
Able to model appropriate professional behavior.
Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and district records required.
Bilingual Spanish helpful.
