JOB OPENING: HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH
NAME OF POSITION: HEAD VOLLEYBALL COACH
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To serve as the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach & Volleyball Program Director, grades 7-12.
THIS POSITION IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: West Valley High School Athletic Director and Principal
TIME AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Date Activity Starts and Finishes (approximate): Late May-Mid November (Fall Sports Season)
Weeks per season/year: approx.
13 Total number of days required with students: 65-78
Number of hours per week with students: 15-25 Number of students under your supervision: 48

Duties:
Utilize strength & conditioning program to enhance performance of each athlete.
Emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of the best training and injury procedures.
Teach appropriate technique and skills
Follow and abide by all WVSD and WIAA policies and procedures and assist in articulating and enforcing for the athletes
Complete all required administrative tasks in a timely manner
Properly care for all uniforms, equipment and facilities usage.
Demonstrate knowledge of game preparation and contest strategy/adjustments
Promote the program through media outlets and conduct an end of season celebration to recognize athletes
Use appropriate strategies to motivate athletes both intrinsically and extrinsically
Use verbal encouragement, past successes, and peer modeling to help ALL athletes believe in themselves inside and outside of sports
Employ strategies to successfully create a team culture of excitement and enjoyment
Create appropriate relationships with individuals and builds unity within the team
Focus on process goals to obtain the desired outcome and performance goals
Verbalize transformational purpose statement and demonstrate how it serves him/her in decision making process
Verbalize highest core values and communicate how they are represented in purpose statement
Coach can articulate who they are in and out of sports, in and beyond their role as a coach while helping athletes to do the same
Use strategies to teach both moral character and performance character
Demonstrate an understanding of when to prioritize the programs purpose over the programs performance and outcome goals
Create an environment where every athlete knows their role and worth to the team’s cause and relationships
Attend all coaches’ meetings, practice session, matches as scheduled.
Provide input to Athletic Director for scheduling of non-league matches/tournaments.
Evaluate the sub-varsity coaches and be a mentor to those coaches.
Keep accurate statistics and disseminate to appropriate coaches/league/media sources.
Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests.
Develop a budget for basic equipment (ASB Budget) and for capital needs (Levy/General Budget).
Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program.
Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well.
Maintain WIAA coaching standards
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Credentials: Washington State Teaching Credentials Required.
Current First Aid/CPR card required,
a good driving record that allows you to drive a school vehicle required.
Education: 4-year degree required
Playing Experience: Previous volleyball playing experience at the high school level required, college level highly preferred.
Coaching Experience: Previous successful head volleyball coaching experience in secondary school or community programs required.
Volleyball coaching certification preferred.
Knowledge and experience in Gold Medal Squared Volleyball preferred.
Bilingual Preferred

The candidate should have the ability to be an independent, critical thinker as well as a team player.
The ability to plan practices, events, and organize all the necessary materials and persons to carry out the sport/activity is highly valued.
Must be able to consistently meet scheduled responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities.
SALARY
Current salary - DOE.
Additional stipend for post-season play.
