Announcement # 2024-034 Issue Date: 01-31-24 Closing Date: 02-13-24 Office Assistant V Fire Management Department of Natural Resources Hourly Wage: $16.
07/Regular/Full-Time Responsible for performing a variety of secretarial work in keeping official records, providing administrative support to the Fire Management staff, and assisting in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of Fire Management.
Incumbent performs primary outlined duties: such as answering phones, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, data processing, bookkeeping, and filing.
Examples of Work Performed: Assist in data entry in the D365 Microsoft such as purchase orders, prepayments, travel advances, close outs, and for fire preparedness and fire suppression accounts when needed.
Provide assistance in filing purchase orders, travel authorizations, journal entry documents, timesheets.
Utilize standard office machines such as copier, computer, and fax machines, assist with miscellaneous typing.
Maintain radio and telephone contact with fire lookouts and suppression forces, Fire Management Officer, Assistant Fire Management Officer, Forest Manager, and others informed as to status of incidents.
Assist in the preparation of thorough incident reports and logging all activities.
Work with vendors associated with Yakama Nation Fire Management.
Will assist and supervise the making of arrangements for firefighter crews such as transportation, meals, supplies, demobilizations, etc.
Assist in the preparation of fiscal year operations and suppression accounts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles of office administration.
Knowledge of fire weather terminology, data, and ability to decipher both.
Knowledge of the Yakama Reservation geographical locations.
Knowledge of ordering process through proper channels for fire cache supplies.
Knowledge of Business, English and Math.
Knowledge of filing practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the fundamentals of fire behavior.
Knowledge of computers, language, and terminology.
Knowledge of the Fire Management Analysis budget process.
Skill in the operation of all copiers, two-way radio, tape recorder, facsimile machine, weather instruments, typewriters, computers, vehicles, etc.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively to transmit information using two-way radio and telephone.
Ability to effectively and efficiently work for long hours under pressure and adjust to all emergency incidents in a professional manner.
Minimum Requirements: Three years experience as an Office Assistant IV.
Highly dependable, and willing to work long hours in high pressure situations.
During fire season will be "on-call" or "stand by" status 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
