The OpportunityWSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Technician 3 to serve as a Survey Data Technician within the Region’s Project Development Office located in Union Gap, WA.
In this role, you will utilize your background in customer service, land surveying, CAD, ArcGIS, and website programming to maintain a user-friendly web interface for statewide customers.
The Survey Data Technician ensures that completed survey data is accessible and error free, troubleshoots any issues that arise during the migration process and assists in fulfilling customer requests for new and existing survey data sets, maintain, develop, and update the web interface as needed.
This position plays a vital role in the efficient management and accessibility of survey data to our statewide customer network.
What to ExpectAmong the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Survey Data Technician will: Collaborate with the survey team to seamlessly integrate completed deliverable data sets into an existing web interface.
Troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise with the web interface and data accessibility.
Provide exceptional customer service to statewide customers.
Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies related to survey data management and web development, continuously improving your expertise.
Perform and follow tasks in accordance with WAC 18.

020(9) & 332-130-100(2) and Washington state land survey standards, techniques, methodologies.
Operate and assist in inventory survey instrument and all assigned gear, tools, and vehicle.
Operate, maintain, and calibrate a variety of instruments such as: levels, total stations, global position systems, Washington State Reference Network, and all related data collectors, as well as their associated accessories.
Be responsible for assisting in the inventory of survey instruments and reporting missing gear.
Understand and comply with WSDOT Computer Aided Engineering standards and survey preparations.
Write proper field notes and daily field reports to document the survey and when needed transcribe this information into other forms of conveyance, such as memos, emails, and reports.
QualificationsTo be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: Strong programming skills in web development languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, ASP.
NET and/or Python.
Experience with ArcGIS software for data visualization and mapping.
Ability to use software, such as MicroStation, AutoCAD and Virtual Surveyor.
Ability to operate a total station, bar code level, data collector and GNSS antenna, UAV, USV or any other equipment being utilized in the region to collect a variety of data.
Ability to use various pieces of field equipment to obtain necessary parameters for analysis.
Ability to coach and mentor on land survey and computer science topics.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
Ability to consistently and dependably be at work.
Skills to communicate proficiently, both orally and in writing, and work in a cooperative and courteous manner with the public, contractors, supervisors, and other department staff.
A valid driver’s license.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: A Washington Professional Land Surveyor-in-training certification.
Experience/prior exposure to design, construction, traffic, materials, program management, or other WSDOT related types of work.
Experience with Survey software DJI Terra, Pix4d Mapper, Survey and/or Matic, Leica LGO, Infinity, and Cyclone 3DR.
Experience in developing web interfaces for data visualization and customer accessFamiliarity with database management systems and SQLKnowledge of other GIS software and tools.
Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
Familiarity with survey data collection methods and equipmentExperience with Bentley software products InRoads or OpenRoads.
