Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state.
In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project.
The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking a non-permanent Maintenance Specialist 2 in Union Gap, WA.
This position located in the South-Central Region, the WSDOT Sign Shop is the sole sign fabricate and distribution organization for the entire Washington State Department of Transportation.
The Sign Shop is a fast paced, high volume manufacturing facility that provides high quality signage to WSDOT Engineering, Regional Maintenance Operations, Aviation and WSDOT Ferries Operations.
The staff is dedicated to performing this challenge, as well as integrating the WSDOT Strategic Plan Goal Areas of Inclusion, Practical Solutions and Workforce Development.
What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will: Forklift operation for safely receiving materials from freight vendors.
Count track and store material in proper locations.
Coordinate orders for shipping.
Utilize best shipping practices to determine shipping needs.
Package products to ship safely.
Utilize computer to communicate with shipping vendors to schedule pick up times and locations.
Work safely with hand substrate material to apply reflective sheeting for sign base.
Participate with shop staff and others in monthly safety meetings.
Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: High School Graduate or GED certificate or equivalent.
Accurately track and record material usage for inventory control.
Knowledge and /or experience operating sign fabrication equipment.
Knowledge and/or experience operating and managing warehouse and equipment.
Communicate professionally and work with a diverse work group.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: Valid Driver's License.
Knowledge of the MUTCD as it relates to sign fabrication and the WSDOT Sign Fabrication Manual.
Forklift Operation Certification.
Important Notes This is a non-permanent position.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.
Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
