Yakima Valley Community College is accepting applications for one Human Resource Administrative Assistant in the Office of The President - Human Resource Services.
This is a full-time exempt professional position, with a salary of $65,063 annually, plus a full state benefits package.
The Confidential Administrative Assistant will exercise independent judgment in providing human resource policy and procedure guidance including budget reconciliation and meeting scheduling.
The position requires contact with all areas of the college organization, as well as with Washington state educational and regulatory agencies, community college counterparts across the state, and the communities of the Yakima Valley.
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Human Resources the Administrative Assistant exercises delegated decision-making authority and utilizes judgment to solve unusual administrative problems consistent with the objectives and policies of the college.
The Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director helps to establish and maintain a positive environment and image for the college by serving as the primary point of contact for the many people who make contact with the Executive Director’s office, screening phone calls, staff, and visitors addressing needs as appropriate, and prioritizing follow-up activities.
The Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director assists in developing, planning, and implementing special projects, as assigned by the Executive Director.
This position reports to the Executive Director of Human Resource Services.
This position may be asked to represent the Executive Director’s interests and provide interpretation or explanation of Department policies or viewpoints in the Executive Director’s absence.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Minimum QualificationsAssociate of Arts degree; AND/OR 2-3 years recent experience as a full-time human resource professional Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications Demonstrated current knowledge of human resource policies and procedures Recent full-time experience as a support staff in an office environment Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a closely related field Experience working in higher education with human resource policies and procedures, including but not limited to those for administrative/exempt, faculty, and classified staff Experience with Onboarding, Offboarding, Recruitment, Payroll, Class and Compensation, Talent Acquisition, Benefits, Leave and other software currently used in Washington State Community College Human Resource offices Experience with CTCLink (An Oracle Peoplesoft Human Capital Management Systems) Knowledge of: Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word at the intermediate/expert level.
Ability To: Possess a high level of organizational skills and excellent written, verbal, and active listening communication skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies at all levels within and outside the College community Thorough knowledge of administrative techniques and procedures and the ability to implement them Ability to review documents for spelling, grammar, and proper citation; ability to create, compose, and edit written materials Use of electronic technology and media and demonstrate expert skills in employment recruitment and hiring process software Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and balancing priorities is required Knowledge of business ethics, human relations, and accounting Effective communication in an office setting Positive and effective personal values that are aligned with the community college mission Ability to effectively work with faculty, staff, and students with diverse backgrounds and abilities Knowledge of the College’s policies, procedures, rules, and regulations and with Washington State’s WAC and RCW pertinent to his/her job responsibilities Use relational databases and develop queries, reports, and solutionsRelate well to diverse populations, students, faculty, staff, and the general public in a friendly, courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
