Insurance Eligibility Specialist

*Job Description*: The Insurance Eligibility Specialist works to ensure that patients’ health care benefits cover required vision or medical procedures.
Verification will include contacting patients’ insurance companies to verify coverage levels, as well as communicating directly with patients.
The successful candidate will be one who takes initiative and pursues excellence in their work.
*Required:* · High school diploma or equivalent · Basic math skills · Critical thinking skills · Attention to detail · Computer literacy · Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills · Ability to work well with others · Take initiative in learning new tasks and understanding the doctors’ and patients’ needs.
*Preferred:* · Experience in a medical setting preferred, however, training will be available as needed.
· Bilingual (Spanish/English) *Compensation*: Beginning at $16.
50/hour or commensurate with experience.
*Detailed Tasks and Responsibilities:* ● Contacts patients’ insurance companies (online or by phone) to determine patient eligibility for both vision and medical procedures.
● Communicates with patients to confirm and verify demographic and insurance information.
● Processes referrals sent to the clinic.
● Answer the phone.
● Assists in other areas of the office as necessary.
*Work Environment*: This position is located at our fast-paced optometry clinic which serves the community’s vision needs through a medical and optical sales setting.
This position also requires working in close proximity to a diverse group of other co-workers.
*Position Type, Expected Hours of Work & Attendance*: This is a full-time position with normal days being Monday through Friday.
Schedules vary per shift but hours are typically 8 hours per day.
Some flexibility in hours may be allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of their shift.
Overtime may be needed on a voluntary or mandatory basis.
