Klickitat Valley Health is seeking a Central Service Technician to join the Surgical Services department.
This casual position offers varied hours a week.
The ideal candidate will be available to cover for high volume days, vacations and leaves.
General Summary:
The Central Service Technician (CST) prepares the necessary sterile instruments, supplies and equipment used during the surgical procedure.
The CST demonstrates excellence in customer service during interactions with employees, managers/supervisors, physicians, patients and patient family members, etc.
The CST is aware of the potential exposure to internal and external hazardous materials, including but not limited to: blood and blood borne pathogens, infectious/communicable diseases, potential physical injury while caring for patients.
Maintains a safe and clean environment for the care of the patient.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):
Education:
High school diploma or GED required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
Experience:
At least one (1) year experience working in a medical facility central service department.
Working toward certification as a Certified Registered Central Supply Technician preferred.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supports the mission, vision and values of the organization.
Follows established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment.
Monitors and maintains adequate par levels of materials for the perioperative services.
Monitors and maintains sufficient levels of perioperative services consignment inventory, including surgical implants.
Monitors, rotates and removes all outdated and overstocked materials and verify that par levels are adjusted accordingly.
Reviews the surgical schedule in advance to verify that supplies and equipment are available when needed.
Transports contaminated instruments and equipment to decontaminated area for cleaning/serialization after use.
Assists with ordering and restocking of instruments and supplies; restocking specialty cart as needed and maintain records of purchase orders, requisitions and product literature.
Keep the surgeon’s preferences cards current for use in making sterile packs.
Keeps records associated with the sterilization process, dates surgical packs for storage time limitations.
Maintains knowledge of instrumentation and methods of serialization process.
Follows hospital procedures when disposing of biohazardous materials, labeling and handling of all materials.
Process and distributes medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other areas within the facility or health care organization as needed.
Adheres to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Follows safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies, and equipment.
Operates equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and according to the manufacturer’s instruction for use.
Monitors, interprets and documents results of physical, chemical and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas.
Assists with improving the quality of sterile processing services.
Comply with all hospital policy and procedures, while upholding the high expectations of KVH.
Assists with maintaining a safe, clean and organized work area/department.
Attends a minimum of 50% of nursing staffing meetings and 100% of mandatory in-services.
Assists with clean up and set up of surgery rooms.
Assists with pulling the next day’s surgery cases.
Performs other duties as assigned.
