The Dental Infection Control Specialist assists the Infection Control leaders with oversight activities related to infection control.
This includes developing and continuous improvement of policies, protocols, and procedures, and providing education and training.
You will also ensure compliance with regulatory standards and requirements for infection control in the dental setting.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities/Duties Collaborate with other disciplines to proactively identify clinical infection control risks and implement mitigation efforts to eliminate harm to patients in dental healthcare.
Ensure standardization of clinical dental processes, supplies, and equipment use that are related to Infection Control.
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and clinical resource to all clinical dental staff.
Assist with monitoring compliance of the infection prevention and control programs, plans, policies, and regulations in our dental offices.
Maintain professional knowledge of dental regulations and develop and improve existing training in response to regulatory and organizational change.
Assist in developing infection control training for dental staff.
Coordinate and provide education for dental staff regarding risk, prevention, transmission, and control of infection and disease-specific care.
Assist with implementing and overseeing organization-wide sterilization/autoclave/disinfection training and monitoring programs per regulatory oversight requirements.
Coordinate with the Operations Dental Coordinator to make recommendations for clinical workflows that ensure appropriate regulatory compliance.
Participate in various committees as the dental infection control representative.
These committees include the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee, the Corporate Supply and Equipment Standards Committee, and the Dental Quality Committee.
Participate in regulatory audits to include any corrective action needed.
Assist with compliance visits to ensure compliance of sterilization protocols.
Participate in routine meetings with dental leaders to establish an understanding of the Infection Control Process in the dental setting.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to ensure that disposal of medical waste follows federal, state and local regulations.
Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare or dental-related field.
Associate Degree in science or healthcare-related field with two additional years of experience may be considered in place of the Bachelor’s Degree.
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) with four additional years of experience may be considered in place of the Bachelor’s Degree.
Experience: Two years of dental healthcare experience in a Dental Hygienist, Dental Assistant, Sterile Processing and/or dental front office position.
Dental/ healthcare infection control experience preferred.
Dental leadership experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Registered as a Dental Assistant (DA), Dental Hygienist (DH), or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
CPR certification BLS within 90 days of employment.
Certification in Dental Infection Prevention and Control (CDIPC) within 2 years of hire.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Knowledge of sterilization/ infection control procedures in the dental or healthcare setting.
Familiarity with operations of a dental clinic.
Knowledge of medical/dental terminology and dental anatomy.
Knowledge of dental materials and instruments.
Knowledge of standard dental practices and current hygiene concepts.
Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) activities as they relate to dental functions.
Skills to perform workflow analysis and identify areas for improvement.
Skills to manage projects and develop process improvement plans for operational functions.
Strong organizational skills.
Effective presentation skills with groups of all sizes and the skills to convey complex details in a simplified manner.
Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills with individuals and groups.
Skills to demonstrate the principles of continuous process improvement.
Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
