The Opportunity The Fruit and Vegetable (F&V) Inspection Program provides accurate and unbiased inspection services to the fresh produce and processing industry statewide to ensure orderly marketing of fruits and vegetables.
Commodities are inspected for quality, size, labeling, condition, and contract specifications and may be certified as free from disease and insects as required by domestic and international markets.
The Fruit & Vegetable Inspection Office Supervisor independently utilizes knowledge of the F&V field inspection processes, policies, and procedures to administer and oversee all program administrative functions while providing leadership and maintaining a positive and respectful working relationship with program staff and external entities.
This position provides consultation, and coordinates program services and resources regarding the functions of the program.
What to Expect Some of the various responsibilities within this role include: Develops, revises, implements, interprets, and administers program specific policies, procedures, practices, and sets standards for existing and new program activities impacting program staff, and outside entities including stakeholders.
Provides interpretations and resolves inquiries for customers and stakeholders.
Audits, processes, and reviews inspection documents, certificates, and information for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
Reviews federal and state inspection requirements for program compliance; makes recommendations to the program manager and/or regional manager and implements necessary changes for compliance.
Contacts warehouse, marketing agencies and USDA regarding auditing processes and program policies and procedures.
Orders and verifies shipments for incoming federal & state documents, administrative, program staff and stakeholder documents.
Enforces inspection policies and regulations.
Supervises, trains, and assigns work to administrative staff and new employees.
Evaluates staff performance and provides feedback, mentorship, and coaching skills to facilitate ongoing staff development.
Evaluates work process alternatives, priorities, and time when determining task schedules.
Works closely with HR, fiscal and payroll staff; provides answers to questions and/or provides necessary information.
Prepares travel authorization requests, and other travel related documentation.
Works closely with external stakeholders and supervisors when facilities are registering to ensure accurate registrations.
Audits declarations, official treatments, and correct botanical names entered into the database.
Prepares, audits, and processes F&V Inspection certificates, note sheets, and documents into the F&V Program finance and accounting system.
Qualifications Who should apply? Professionals with: Bachelor's degree in business administration or public administration or financial related field AND two (2) years of experience in a related field including planning, policy analysis, coordination, and consultation with a variety of public and private agencies, organizations, and/or levels of government and supervisory experience.
OR High school diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years of experience in state government AND two (2) years of relevant accounting, auditing, reconciling, or budgeting work experience AND at least one (1) supervisory experience.
OR Equivalent education/experience.
Special Requirements: Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift 20 lbs.

In addition to the above qualifications, the following knowledge, skills, and abilities will make a candidate highly desirable: BS/BA in business administration or public administration or financial related field is desired.
Licensed and bonded by the State of Washington as a Notary Public.
Knowledge of agency designated software: FA2, Great Plains (GP) System, OFM Accounts Receivable System Portal, Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES) the Expenditure Portal, Travel Expense Management System (TEMS), NeoGov, Mantis, Testlink, Kerlka, and DES Fleet Operations portal.
