Yakima Valley College seeks an Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 1.

The Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 1 position supports the Workforce Education Division- Automotive Service Technician (AST) Program.
This is a cyclic, working 10-month, full-time classified position, with Leave Without Pay (LWOP) from July through August of each year.
Beginning salary is $ 3294 per month for 40 hours per week, with periodic increments up to $4385 plus a full state benefits package.
Reporting to the Program Manager – Workforce Education, the Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 1 will perform a variety of tasks in support of the Automotive Program and faculty.
The Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 1 will demonstrate they are professionally interested in monitoring and assisting students served by the AST Program to facilitate student success.
Under general supervision, the successful incumbent will work in collaboration with college department faculty, administrators, and staff members; and perform work that requires knowledge of lab procedures, materials, equipment, safety practices, and other duties as assigned.
Additionally, we are seeking a candidate who demonstrates a strong promise as a contributing member of the Workforce Education.
This position requires accountability, dependability, and engagement.
Duties are performed in the automotive stockroom and automotive shop/lab environment.

Essential Tasks MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent, AND Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) professional certifications PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned associate in business or closely related field from an accredited institution 3 years or more of work experience in the automotive industry.
One year of work experience with inventory maintenance.
Forklift certified.
Master ASE certified.
ABILITY TO: Follow safety protocols, and accident prevention and reporting practices in an automotive lab.
Concentrate for extended periods, work with multiple interruptions, and multitask.
Communicate knowledge and skills in both oral and written forms to students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, education, and cultural backgrounds.
Work collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, students, public, and community partners to create a positive work environment.
Lift up to 50 lbs.
Manipulate machines by hand, visually see and hear hazards and safety issues.
Self-manage work independently and meet deadlines as necessary.
Value open-mindedness, inclusion, multicultural perspectives, and multiple ways of knowing, thinking, and being ability to work successfully with adults of various ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Must be forklift certified.
Qualifications ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Budgetary Assist department head and collaborate with program coordinator regarding program equipment requests and lab budget quotes and procurement.
Public Relations: Accurately perform word processing spreadsheets and database files.
Represent assigned program(s) accurately and positively to all constituents.
Maintain positive relationships with the public, students, faculty, staff and administrators.
Serve as a program liaison to other college departments, committees and outside agencies.
Provide students, staff, program participants, and members of the public with accurate and detailed information specific to the assigned programs.
Program Specialization: Must be forklift certified or gain certification within 6 months of hire date and maintain certification.
Must maintain First Aid/CPR, ASE Certification, and any other certifications required for the program.
Oversee and coordinate open lab schedule for AST labs and oversee student workers.
Provide initial troubleshooting and problem documentation of issues that directly impact instruction and coordinate with faculty, staff, and students for problem resolution.
Assist instructors with testing and verifying configurations of classroom labs including verifying equipment is properly setup for classroom lab demonstrations and projects.
Assist in all phases of classroom demonstrations and projects.
Actively monitor students for using proper and safe techniques when working both internal/external classroom labs, during individual and small group class time sessions.
Inventory, manage, and order materials and supplies used in the classroom and lab.
Build a preventative maintenance schedule for automotive department machinery and equipment.
Clean and repair tools and shop equipment such as welders, lathes, buffers, dust collectors, and hoists.
Coordinate service and repair for tools and equipment.
Coordinate with facilities to manage and monitor hazardous waste collection and scrap metal.
Assist students and instructors in selecting correct tools and materials; assist in setup and operation as required along with demonstrating tools, equipment, machinery, and materials.
Assist faculty with student learning in the lab.
Demonstrate proper techniques and procedures to students when necessary.
Maintain storage area to keep supplies readily available and in clean, working order.
Organize and maintain all storage areas for equipment and supplies.
Lead and direct work-study students assigned to the AST Program.
Direct and evaluate students in lab clean-up.
Ensure compliance with departmental, institutional, and/or granting agency policies rules, and regulations.
May work occasional evenings.
